Ever since the addition of the creative game mode into Fortnite, wagers have been an integral part for streamers to hone their skills. Being able to play against supporters and other top competitors ranging from five to sometimes five hundred dollars, wagers brought a level of excitement and action not seen in core game modes.
However, as of today wagers can no longer take place on or off stream. First brought to attention by one of the largest names in the community Clix, when he tweeted, “Won’t be playing or having anything to do with wagers anymore, just got personally messaged by Epic and was told to stop or will result in a ban. Recommend others to stop as well, tweeting this so people are aware.”
This was followed up by many other players expressing their opinions on the matter making it seem like they were in a very tough situation in terms of creating content. This raises the question of what will Epic do next, will they release a statement regarding the situation? Or will players and streamers have to make the determination themselves.
The concept of clear transparency between Epic and competitive players has been an ongoing debate, however even without a statement directly, the majority of the community understands the harsh reality after reading Clix’s tweet.
Stay on the lookout over the coming weeks to see whether or not Epic decides to crack down on players and content creators not taking the message seriously. And make sure to check back here on Open Scrims for the latest information.
